Summary:
Kaiser Permanente created a standardized workflow and a team of Infectious Disease physicians and pharmacists to guide inpatient physicians on appropriate antibiotic use. The results of the pilot demonstrated reduction in the use of targeted antibiotics, cost avoidance, and decreased mortality. The pilot and published results have been pivotal in spreading the improvements across the California Kaiser system.
