Project Description

Organization:
Smarter Lunchrooms Movement of California composed of University of California CalFresh Nutrition Education Program, Dairy Council of California, California Department of Education

Summary:
The Smarter Lunchrooms Movement (SLM) is an evidence-based method of promoting healthful eating behaviors using low-and no-cost practices that have proven successful in schools across the country. The SLM of California models the National SLM, but differentiated its approach from the rest of the nation by developing a delivery model with a focus on connecting food service staff to certified Technical Advising Professionals (TAPs) and supporting behavior change with direct nutrition education to students and community members. Locally, the TAPs provided assistance and support to 106 schools in implementing SLM strategies over the last year and have seen positive changes in their school meal programs.
